A Cholesterol Test Report - Is it Something You Need

By Xander Rustev

Over the past few decades the word cholesterol for many people has come to be equated with bad health. The truth of the matter, however, is that the human body actually produces and needs cholesterol and without it a person quite simply wouldn't survive a day. Cholesterol is produced in the liver and is a vital component in healthy cell membranes and also the body uses it to help it absorb and make use of certain types of vitamins.

Too Much Cholesterol is Unhealthy

The misunderstanding of cholesterol for most people lies in the fact that too much of it in a persons system is very unhealthy and can contribute directly to heart disease, due to the thickening and hardening of the arteries that connect to the heart.

Unhealthy Animal Fats and Vegetable Oils

While some people are genetically predisposed to excess cholesterol, others acquire it by eating too much unhealthy fats, most notably animal fats. However; it must be noted that there are more than one type of veritable fats such as coconut oil and any hydrogenated vegetable oils that can cause the level of cholesterol in a persons body to increase.

Who Needs a Cholesterol Test Report?

There are no outward symptoms of excess cholesterol in a persons body, so only a cholesterol test report can determine definitively if a persons system contains an excess amount of cholesterol. Who should obtain a cholesterol test report? The answer to that question, is anyone with a family history of high cholesterol and anyone over 40.

Home Cholesterol Test Kits

While there are some home test kits now available, their accuracy is questionable. It is for this reason that a standard blood analysis cholesterol test report should be administered by a physician. Blood is first drawn by a doctor and then sent off to a laboratory for testing and in roughly one week a persons resulting cholesterol test report is made available.
