Generations Prefer KitchenAid Stand Mixers

By Dustin Davis While growing up, my family always had a white KitchenAid mixer sitting on our counter. It normally had a cloth cover on it. My mom used it all the time to make cookies & red velvet cakes. Honestly, I didn't think much of it, but she always referred to it as her "KitchenAid" rather than her mixer. When I was 12 years old, my parents separated. My mom moved out and took little with her, but she did take her KitchenAid mixer. That's when I really noticed the void. I liked to make cookies. I talked my dad into buying a cheap mixer. We bought a couple second hand mixers. They both broke. Needless to say, I didn't make many cookies. Eventually my dad remarried and his new wife had a white KitchenAid mixer just like my moms. When I got engaged it was fun to go do the little wedding registry thing. We only registered at one store. I believe it was the now bought-out ZCMI. My wife put a cobalt blue KitchenAid stand mixer on the list.

How to Grill With Marinades - Tips on Grilling

By Brian E. Hill Marinating meat before grilling helps tenderize it and adds wonderful flavor. Tenderizing agents often used in marinades include acidic ingredients such as vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice, yogurt and even wine. Fresh papaya, ginger and pineapple contain tenderizing enzymes, and they add exotic flavors as well. Marinades are wonderfully versatile flavor enhancers for the outdoor chef. The marinade recipes you can come up with are only limited by your imagination. You start by selecting your acid or tenderizing ingredients, and add additional ingredients. Popular choices include herbs (oregano, thyme), garlic, shallots, brown sugar or honey, soy sauce, cumin, black pepper, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste and mustard. You can also take something you already have in the refrigerator, such as standard Italian salad dressing, and build additional flavor through adding fresh herbs like cilantro, or spicing it up with chili powder. Timing is i

10 Ideas For Grill'n Fruits and Veggies on the Weber Genesis E-320 Gas Grill

By James L. Wiley For many folks grilling is about meat, more like MEEEEAT, and the rest of the meal or menu is prepared in your indoor kitchen. The great thing about the Weber Genesis E-320 Propane Gas Grill is that the 12,000 BTU side burner opens up several more options for controlling your cooking and dining experience right on your patio. However, having made that observation, we are always surprised by how many "sides" and even "desserts" can be prepared right on the grilling grate of the E-320. First things first, the grill grate needs to be thoroughly cleaned and the grate should be well oiled. On top of that, make sure that any vegetables or fruits have been bushed with olive oil, sprayed with cooking oil or hand rubbed with butter. Don't use your expensive EVOO for this but you can if you wish. Flavored olive oils infused with your favorite seasoning, herbs and spices are wonderful for grilling. Dropped on a medium to med-high temperature

How to Teach Your Baby to Spoon-feeding

Psychologists affirm that it is a mother, who determines an age when her child begins to eat with a spoon independently, as all matters of upbringing fall on her shoulders. Some babies could eat with a spoon even before 1 year old, whereas a baby of a too anxious mother could not eat by himself even at 2 years old. The result depends on the fact when parents allow their child to try eating at the table. And the earlier this happens, the better result will be for child. Parental task is to support their baby's pleasure while eating. A majority of children show a wish to eat with a spoon at 9-11 months, and, if parents encourage such independence of children, then, by 1,5 years the most persistent ones will be able to "wield a spoon" perfectly without any help. Training for independent spoon-feeding begins at 6 months already, when a child tries to eat by himself, holding a cookie or cracker in his hand. Then at 8 months, when a baby can already sit confident

How to Cook Quinoa - Four Different Methods For Preparing Quinoa

By Ken H Jones Background information Quinoa is often thought of as a grain but in fact seeds from a plant. These seeds are small and come in a range of varieties. The most common variety is white which has now become readily available in the uk being stocked by Tesco, Sainsbury's and numerous health food shops. Red quinoa has recently become available in the uk although I understand that it has been on sale in the U.S. for quite some time. The truth about rinsing For most types you do not need to rinse it. This is because the large manufacturers realized that they would sell more if it was prewashed before going on sale. So I have not found quinoa on sale that has not been rinsed in the last few months. If it tastes bitter then you need to rinse it by running it under a cold tap for 2 - 3 minutes before cooking. What does it taste like? This superfood has a unique flavour and feel to it. It is compared to rice but it has a definite crunch to it. If you overcook i

Cookware Cooking Utensils That Do Double the Work

By Bob Cummins There are many different types of cookware cooking utensils on the market. There are so many cooking utensils to choose from that it can cause many a dispute between couples as far as which one they prefer. There is a feeling that cooking utensils for the kitchen should match the pans needs, plastic for nonstick and metal for others. Most people have kitchen utensils used solely for cooking in the kitchen and they have another set cooking tools made specifically for outdoor grilling. Well, I like to try and find cookware cooking utensils that can be used and work well whether your cooking on the grill outside or in the kitchen. Plastic type utens

Beer Butt Chicken - You Stick The Can Where?

If you've never heard of Beer Butt Chicken, the title of this post probably caught your attention. When you see those three words used together in a sentence, you just gotta read on. I used to shy away from grilling a whole chicken until I discovered this method. Try it once, and you'll be a beer butt addict. (Is there a support group for that?) Beer Butt Chicken 1. Buy a whole chicken. A smaller chicken will be easier to work with and keep upright than a larger one, but any size will do. Rub some salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika on the outside and inside of the bird. 2. Slide the beer can inside the chicken's butt. Lubrication is not usually needed. (It's actually the neck of the chicken, but Beer Neck Chicken just doesn't have the same ring to it). The bottom of the can and the two legs will form a sort of tripod that will keep the bird upright on the grill. 3. Get an old baking pan, and add 1/4″ of water. Place the pan on the grill and stand the

How Do You Buy Fish Oil Supplements Without Mercury And Other Toxins

By Dan Ho Fish oil supplements without mercury in them should be one of the most important standards by which all supplements are judged. We will discuss this a bit and then cover some other important points about how to choose a quality fish oil product. First, as most of us know now, eating fatty fish may provide a great source of omega-3's, but it also comes with toxins that build up in the flesh of the fish because of pollution in the world's water systems. These toxins can be very serious: heavy metals like mercury, lead, PCB's. Fish oil supplements without mercury need to be molecularly distilled. The molecular distillation process separates the toxins from the beneficial oils, which are separated based on weight. The purified oils are then used for the supplements. So, the first thing you need to do is buy only fish oil that has been molecularly distilled. Secondly, you need to find a product made with a fish species with a naturally high omega 3 co

Coconut Oil Helps Lower Cholesterol

By Trevor Bartley NO TRANS-FATTY ACIDS IN ORGANIC COCONUT OIL Trans fatty acids, also known as trans fat, is an artery-clogging fat that is formed when vegetable oils are hardened into margarine or shortening. It is found in many other foods besides margarine and shortening, however, including fried foods like French fries and fried chicken, doughnuts, cookies, pastries and crackers. Typically French fries have about 40 percent trans fatty acids and many popular cookies and crackers range from 30 percent to 50 percent trans fatty acids.
