A Well-Stocked Kitchen Starts With Bakeware

By Victoria Rosendahl

Do you have memories of homemade comfort food? Perhaps it was cookies at the holidays, or french toast on the weekend. Baked goods can be a special treat or an everyday food. But to make the best baked goods, you'll want to use the best bakeware whether it's a casserole dish, cake pan, or the mixer that blends the batter.

Choosing the right tool for the job is an important part of cooking. Cookies need a cookie sheet to have the right amount of space to expand and develop, a loaf pan will not do. Likewise, breads need a loaf pan and cakes need cake pans. Casseroles bake best in casserole dishes with higher sides. Specialty items, like cheesecake, are easiest to bake with something like a spring form pan that releases easily. Baking sheets are generally made of metal (like aluminum) and can have several features such as air flow ventilation, insulation or a nonstick surface to prevent burning.

Casserole dishes can be glass, ceramic, or metal depending on the needs of the cook. You'll also want a dish to look beautiful when it is served because that enhances the dining experience.

Mixers come in various sizes from small handheld mixers, immersion blenders, or larger stand mixers that have different attachments for different purposes. Other tools for baking include general supplies such as measuring cups, measuring spoons and mixing bowls. There are also items that are more specialized for specific uses. There are special liners for cookie trays to aid in keeping items from sticking like a Silpat liner or parchment paper. There are also tons of special items for cake making and decorating including pastry bags, specialty frosting tips, and cake stands.

Bakeware is a necessary item in any kitchen so that it can be well stocked and ready to make delicious home made treats. You will be making more than just food; you will also be creating memories with your family and loved ones to cherish for years to come.
