Teaching Your Children To Help in The Kitchen at an Early Age

By Tl Kleban Learning how to cook is more than just eating and satisfying your primal urges. It is actually a great and yet underrated way of educating your child. Cooking allows all of the developmental domains such as cognitive, physical, mental, social and emotional to be influenced and you get to eat it when you're finished with all of this learning. Teaching through cooking is not only perfect for children, but it is also great way to spend quality time with them too. Through cooking, your children respond to learning because they take active participation in the entire process. This is because it's a hands-on learning experience. When you let your kids help with preparing a meal, they become agreeable, inquisitive, and creative. Not only that but they also take pride and ownership in what they made. Here is how you can get your children more involved in learning how to cook in the kitchen. It's never too early to start. Children as young as toddlers...

Health And Wellness Product Reviews - Is Dark Chocolate Really Healthy?

Dark chocolate seems to be one of the latest products to hit the "health food" product circuit. The Dove dark chocolate bar and Xocai healthy dark chocolate are just two examples. The battle cry is that dark chocolate is bursting with anti-oxidants that help to prevent heart disease and stroke. Sounds great! What are anti-oxidants and do we really need them? Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals, or by-products, which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as "free radical scavengers" and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals. Health problems such as heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes, cancer are all contributed by oxidative damage. Indeed, a recent study conducted by researchers from London found that 5 servings of fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of stroke by 25 percent. A...

Using Bread Machine Mixes In Your Oven

You don't have to own a bread machine to enjoy the variety of bread machine mixes. And you don't have to make blocky, square loaves with holes in the bottom. You can make wonderful rolls, traditional sandwich loaves, and artisan loaves with or without the aid of a bread machine. In this article, we will tell you how to convert any bread machine mix into great breads by hand, with your stand-type mixer, or with your bread machine. First, we'll show you how to bake tempting breads from bread machine mixes without a bread machine. We like to make more than one loaf when we bake so we'll use two mixes and combine them. (When we have more bread than we can use, we slice and freeze it.) We'll mix these in a bowl instead of using our stand-type mixer and bake one in a pan and make one into a classy artisan loaf just to demonstrate versatility. To mix in a bowl , empty the mixes into a large bowl. Mix the yeast in the warm water and add the mixture to the bowl....

A Rant About Microwave Oven Safety

By Ross Wharton Microwave ovens have taken bad press for many years, but when you try to find out why everything seems to link to one major report done in the late 1980's by a Swiss scientist, called Hans Hertel and the Russians' who banned microwave ovens for many years having done studies on microwaves in the 1930s, long before microwave ovens were invented. Hans Hertel a food scientist spent two months locked in a hotel with seven colleagues testing microwave foods and taking and testing blood samples from those people and claiming that there were changes in their blood which showed similar signs to the pathological changes which occur at the start of cancer. Hertel never claimed at any point that microwave ovens cause cancer and his studies were never replicated by any of his peers or published in any medical journal. It seems strange to me that in a world where health has become a priority with smoking bans across Europe and extensive aids programs being co...
